Autumnal Musings

Poem Notes

  1. Stanza xxvii. Haldon, one of the declivities of which was the scene of these musings.
  2. Stanza xxx. Adjoining the above spot, and still uneffaced by the labours of agriculture, are the traces of an encampment, which Antiquaries pronounce to have been the work of the Danes. Haldon also abounds in marine petrifactions, which appear to have been deposited during some great convulsion of nature.
