Poetry Walk

Starting from the pier ....

Starting from the pier ….

The Poetry Walk started from the Pier and wended up to Bitton House where we enjoyed coffee and cakes in the Mayor’s Parlour. It was a sort of walk through history but as told in verse. There were several stops for some poetry recital en route, with poems that were apposite to the location. All the poems have been or will be featured in this Teignmouth in Verse anthology. Here are the links through to the poems selected for that day:

At the Pier: ‘Author’s Bathing at Teignmouth for the Head-Ache’, Jane Cave Winscom

At the Point: ‘In Memoriam’, Tacy Rickard; ‘Storm’, Ian Royce Chamberlain, ‘Fragments of Verse’, Winthrop Mackworth Praed.

At the New Quay Inn: ‘Night-Ride to Teignmouth with Keats’, Graham Burchell; ‘Mesh’, Ian Royce Chamberlain; ‘An Accident’, Thomas Aggett.

At Bitton House: ‘The Dutton’, Anon; ‘Kingsteignton to Teignmouth on the No 2 Bus’, Virginia Griem; ‘Walk This Way’, Neil Howell

Thanks to Ian, Graham and Virginia from Poetry Teignmouth for supporting this event.
